Kohler Brings Augmented Reality Product Previews to iOS App – Kohler View

Kohler View AR application

Kohler View

In the last two years, we have seen a booming era of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality widely applied in various industries. More and more companies are adding “AR as a feature” to enhance shopping experience for customers.

This year, Kohler Canada dipped its toes into Augmented Reality with “Kohler View”, enabling iPhone users place virtual furniture items in their own home space with the AR app, adding a little more depth to the consumers’ online shopping experience than before.

This project was a joint effort between two Winnipeg-based companies: Bit Space Development Ltd., an interactive digital media studio, and ZenFri Inc., an innovative creative arts studio.

Currently, the app has 7 bathroom items for a try. What’s interesting is users can see some product animations to better understand the product itself. For instance, in the Sunstruck® freestanding air bath, users can see airjets pushing air through the water. This bath delivers a one-of-a-kind hydromassage experience, while the heated surface warms your back, shoulders, and neck, or the Numi® toilet combines unmatched design and technology to bring you the finest in personal comfort and cleansing by letting you fine-tune every option to your exact preferences, from ambient colored lighting to wireless Bluetooth®* music sync capability to the heated seat and foot warmer. From its striking form to its exceptional water efficiency, the Numi® toilet marks a new standard of excellence in the bathroom.

Here’s what you need to know about Kohler’s AR app.

How Kohler View Works

Kohler’s augmented reality app is made easy to use and fast. Simply open the app and select “enable camera”. Then scan your room space to define the area. Once finished, the list of bathroom items will appear. Select any of the Sunstruck®, Numi®, Sensate®, Verdera®, Prolific®, Corbelle® and Reveal® to position in your defined space.

Using touch gestures, users can move it around or rotate it until they find the perfect spot. Once an item has been placed in the area, users can select a few different animations that typically demonstrate how the item operates.

The current mainly features some Kohler’s signature bathroom items, and it does not have the purchase feature embedded. Users still have to go on the site or visit the store to place an order.

Which devices can run Kohler View?

If you’re an Apple fan, Kohler View is for you. By running iOS 11 or up, you can download the app from the App store, and check it out. Currently, you’ll also need iPhone 6S or newer, and mostly all the new iPad versions. More details can be found in the App store.

New Augmented Reality App Transforms Manitoba’s Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre into an Interactive Fossil Collecting Adventure!

Morden, Manitoba (May 25th 2017) — With today’s official launch of the “Fossil Discovery Adventure” App, visitors to Morden’s Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre (“CFDC”) will be treated to a first-of-its kind augmented reality (“AR”) fossil hunting experience.

The app allows users to collect AR fossils throughout CFDC by finding digital “dig sites” and applying their knowledge of the exhibits to the app’s built-in trivia game. By answering questions correctly users unlock the tools needed to dig and collect 3D digital fossils. Each fossil uncovered is a digital replica of the CFDC’s Guinness World Record holding Mosasaur (the “T-Rex of the sea”), Bruce. By collecting fossils from all 12 dig sites users can build a complete Bruce skeleton, and bring that skeleton to life in ways never before possible at the CFDC. Visitors can even take the replica home using specially designed posters and t-shirts available in the Gift Shop.

“There is really nothing like this in any museum in Canada and we are thrilled to be on the leading edge of bringing interactive experiences like this into our gallery.” says CFDC Executive Director, Peter Cantelon. “What I like most about this app is that it doesn’t act as a replacement for what’s already here, instead it rewards visitors for exploring the galleries in a more immersive way. To top it off, the app lets users take a digital piece of our exhibits home to share it with friends and family.”

Built as a collaboration between pioneering creative firm ZenFri Inc. (best known for their Canadian Video Game Award Nominated location-based AR game, Clandestine: Anomaly), and the education-focused immersive technology start-up Bit Space Development, the App not only shows that local innovation is built on a willingness to collaborate, but how cutting edge technology can be deployed locally to museums, historic sites and even schools to better engage users.

“What we really love about projects like this, beyond getting to work with amazing prehistoric creatures, is that it re-enforces that fact that there are so many hidden treasures in Manitoba,” said ZenFri’s Chief Executive Artist, Corey King. “If this app brings more people to the CFDC, makes people more aware of the jaw dropping specimens right in our backyard, and most importantly improves their learning experience, well we couldn’t be happier.”

“In all honesty,” Corey continues. “This idea is something we’ve been wanting to do for years, something of a bucket-list project. Our hope is that it opens people’s eyes to what’s possible in the museum, tourism and educational spaces, because we know this can be pushed much, much further.”

“I think this is only the beginning of where we can take things,” Peter notes. “The early feedback from our pre-release testing has been extremely positive. It’s amazing what these folks did on the budget we had. We’re already discussing what’s next, and actively exploring a variety of technologies and ways to expand the CFDC beyond our physical boundaries — it’s a very exciting time.”

The free app is available on Google Play and the App Store, and will be a permanent addition to the gallery.

Cinémental 25 – AR App for Festivals

Cinémental 25 - AR App for Festivals

An AR App For Festivals

For the 25th year of the local festival Cinémental the organizers wanted to do something special. The festival has been an important part of both the french and film communities in Winnipeg for the last 25 years so it deserved something special. To build something amazing we teamed up with our creative friends at Zenfri, one of Winnipeg’s leading creative firms. What we built was a festival application that uses augmented reality to both promote the festival and teach the vibrant history behind it.

Features

Hunt for posters across Winnipeg to unlock tales from Cinémental’s 25 year history. Watch the poster in front of you transform into posters from the festival’s past using augmented reality! Travel to important landmarks across Saint-Boniface and Winnipeg such as the Saint Boniface Cathedral, the Esplanade Riel and Gabrielle Roy House! View maps with game poster and festival screening locations View this year’s screening schedule and don’t forget to buy tickets

How To Play

Select the year you want to learn more about. Use the map to hunt down that poster. Once you’ve found the poster corresponding to that year, press “Scan Poster.” Center the QR Code with the onscreen guides. Follow the onscreen prompt. If you’ve found the right poster, you’ll see it transform into a historic poster from that year’s festival! Once revealed, click “Accept” to unlock interesting stories and details about that year and location. Find the next poster!

Augmented Reality

You have probably heard of augmented reality from Pokemon Go or Clandestine Anomaly, in the Cinémental 25 app you are augmenting reality by unlocking the historical photos and posters from the festival’s past. When you scan a poster watch it disappear as it is replaced with the image you’ve unlocked. We can’t wait for you to try out the app and don’t forget to get your tickets for Cinémental 25!

Get The App

You can download the app on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
