Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Augmented Reality (AR)?

Augmented reality (AR) is an immersive medium that blends virtual assets with real-world environments.

  • What is Virtual Reality (VR)?

Virtual reality (VR) is an artificial  simulated environment which you experience through sensory stimuli. VR manipulates your visual and auditory systems to convince your brain that you are somewhere that you’re not.

  • What is Immersive Technology?

Immersive technology is a blanket term that covers a variety of mediums that blend virtual assets with physical reality in varying degrees. Immersive tech is also known as Extended Reality (XR) and Mixed Reality (MR) technology.

  • What is 360 Web Content?

360-Degree content is available in both video and picture form. It is media that captures an entire 360-degree environment that you can view on smartphone, tablet, or VR headset.

  • Can this Technology be used to train people?

    Absolutely!

Virtual and Augmented reality are both excellent technologies for professional training.

With VR, you can put people in dangerous simulations so they can learn about hazards without risk of injury.

AR technology can be used to guide people through complex tasks. This is especially useful for service technician jobs.

  • How can this technology improve training

Studies have shown that immersive technology improves knowledge retention.

People who learn procedures in VR often learn quicker with fewer mistakes, and they retain the knowledge for longer periods of time between refresher classes. That translates to fewer on-the-job mistakes and reduced downtime costs incurred by lengthy training processes.

  • Will I get motion sickness?

    Probably not.

A small percentage of people are susceptible to motion sickness in VR. However, software optimizations reduce the risk on nausea caused by the experience.

Modern VR headsets are also built to reduce motion sickness concerns.

  • Which Immersive Technology does BSD support?

We develop our projects for a variety of hardware platforms.

We’ve deployed VR experiences on Google Cardboard, Samsung Gear VR, Daydream, Oculus Go, Oculus Quest, Pico Goblin, HTC Vive, Vive Pro, and Oculus Rift/Rift S.

We also support Android, iOS, and Hololens for augmented reality projects.

  • How much does it cost?

The cost of a VR experience can vary greatly. It all depends on the complexity of the project.

Our 360-degree VRSafety platform is our entry level VR platform. Project costs depend entirely on the quantity of scenes and number of hotspots per scene. The starting point for a VR Safety application is in the low 5-figure range.

Full-scale VR experiences with 3D environments are much more complex projects, which require more time to develop. These projects generally start in the mid five-figure range and go up based on complexity.
